Efficacy liability
When buying sprinkler or fire protection insurance, efficacy is an important yet often-overlooked aspect, as the cost can be quite high.
Efficacy liability is insurance against the legal liability for injury to third parties or damage to third-party property arising from a product or service failing to perform its intended function. This is not to be confused with manufacturing defects.
Learn morePublic liability
Public liability insurance protects you if clients or members of the public suffer personal injury or property damage due to negligence caused either by you, a member of staff or failure to maintain your premises in a good state of repair. It can pay for the costs of subsequent legal expenses or compensation claims.
Employers liability
Employers’ liability insurance protects you against the cost of compensation claims arising from employee illness or injury sustained as a result of working for you.
Professional indemnity
If you are alleged to have provided inadequate advice, services or designs to a client, professional indemnity insurance covers the legal costs and expenses in defending the claim, as well as compensation payable to your client to rectify the mistake.
For designers of the sprinkler systems, if you cause damage, whether that’s physical or monetary, you will need to compensate individuals for the consequential and economic loss.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Efficacy Liability?
Efficacy is a failure to operate cover, this means that if you install a system where you are responsible for supplying materials and signing off your own work and a fire breaks out and the sprinkler systems do not engage, then you could be held liable for the damage.
What level of cover do I require?
The standard level of cover required tends to be either £2 or £5 Million Public Liability with £10 Million Employers Liability. Some contractors will also ask for Contract Works and Professional Indemnity. However, if you are working with a main contractor, we recommend you consult your contract for the required covers.
